Is Your Dryer Drying as Fast as It Should?

If your dryer isn’t drying your clothes as fast as it used to then it’s time for a thorough cleaning. It’s important to keep your dryer running at top speed. Not only does this save energy, but it assures that your clothes are dried in the least amount of time possible. A few simple steps performed on a regular basis can help to achieve this and possibly avoid expensive repairs down the road.

If the filter is ripped or torn, replace it. Another common problem is when the filter gets clogged with fabric softner residues. This can be cleaned with a soft bristle brush and detergent.

Check the inside of the dryer cabinet for built up lint: Most lint produced by clothes are generally caught in a lint trap. Sometimes the lint escapes and builds up on the inside of the dryer cabinet. At least once a year you should check the cabinet and clean it if needed. Heavy use of the dryer means a more frequent check.

Check your vent pipe for lint build up: You should check the entire length of the vent pipe. Also remove the lint from the duct. Pushing it back into the dryer can lead to it clogging your vent. You can purchase a vent cleaning brush to help clean the lint up.

Check the chute that holds the lint filter in place: The edge of a vacuum cleaner tube fits well into the chute and remove lint from those hard to reach places. Sometimes the lint build up is so severe that a professional appliance repair technician should be called to avoid the risk of injuring yourself or damaging the dryer.

These simple tips can help to keep your dryer running smoothly and your clothes drying faster.
