There are several different types of mattresses on the market. Each has its pro’s and con’s. They all serve one main purpose and that is to support your body weight when you sleep. We spend an average of 8 hours each night on the mattress so it is crucial to find the most comfortable one for you. Here are the basics on the different types.
Memory Foam
A memory foam mattress adjusts to the shape of your body by contouring to every spot on your body as you sleep. Therefore it provides consistent support. When you get up off the bed the foam returns to its original form. A memory foam mattress does not have springs or box springs. It is just a mattress. These mattresses are typically very expensive but with proper care they can last a lifetime.
Air Mattress
These are commonly used as a temporary bed typically for overnight guests. They can be inflated and deflated as needed with a portable air pump. Air mattresses are not meant to be used as a permanent bed as one tiny hole can destroy it making for numerous purchases.
Water Bed
These mattresses are less common today, but typically last about 8 years. These mattresses are basically a liner filled with water. They can be heated to provide extra warmth for those cold nights.
Adjustable Mattress
An adjustable mattress is a mattress with 2 remote controls. These controls allow you to adjust your side of the bed to the desired firmness of your choice without disturbing the other side
Innerspring Mattress
These are the most common mattresses in bedrooms today. Springs are placed inside these mattresses to support your body weight. These sit on top of a box spring. Innerspring mattresses come in numerous styles, patterns, thickness and with or without pillowtops. Unfortunately, they don’t last as long as some of the other styles of mattresses.
